Kingdom Animalia
Kingdom Animalia consists of several groups called "taxa" that can generally be put into 2 categories: Invertebrates and Vertebrates. The invertebrates include -- Poriferans (sponges), Cnidarians (jellyfish like things), Platyhelminthes (the flat worms), Nematoda (the round worms), Annelida (the segmented worms) , Mollusca (the squid, clam, snail like things) Echinodermata (the starfish like things) and Arthropoda (the "bugs"). The Vertebrates include Fishes, Amphibians, Reptiles, Aves (Birds) and Mammals.

The Youtube clips below do not fit any particular animal group and thus i do not include them on any "Animal Group Page". They are first two weeks of class vids i show for various reasons. The David Gallo : Underwater Astonishments video is to show the wow factor of zoology and to impress upon students how much more there is to discover in the Earth's Oceans. The "Acid Test....." video is a lead up to part of a lab i do in class the first two weeks. That lab addresses the ideas of buoyancy, osmosis, and ocean acidification, all issues that marine life have to deal with. The reasoning for this lab is because the first two groups we study will be Poriferans and Cnidarians, both of which are aquatic only and mostly marine only. The "Sharknado" video is to discuss the idea than many things presented in movies and other media about animals is not true, even ridiculous, and that misconceptions about animal abound.
